Jiri Turek started his career as a professional mime. From 1987 to 1992, he was the head of the Branické Mime Theater (Branické divadlo pantomimy) where he organized the first international movement-theater festival called Mimos in 1991. From 1992 to 2006, he ran the Mimoriál international mime festival in Kolín, Czech Republic. In the 1990s, he simultaneously worked for advertising and PR agencies in which capacity he participated in the organization of numerous other cultural events. In the early 2000, he also worked for the Prague City Hall. In 2004, Jiří founded the International Festival of Contemporary Circus and Theater Letní Letná which celebrated its 17th edition in 2020 with Jiří Turek still at its helm as the creative director and festival manager. Letní Letná is the largest festival in the Czech Republic and one of the largest in Europe.
